Wish List

The Lighthouse Program gladly accepts any donations for our arts and crafts supplies and our educational toys.  A number of items are always needed, please see our wish list below.

Big Ticket Items

1. A new computer or lap top to replace our old and tired office equipment.
2. Big Soft Blocks-21-piece Set "A" ($1400). Purpose: addition to the set of blocks now available in Volcano Room; popular and important item for play, but not enough blocks for children to build what they want to (e.g., fort).
3. 70 Stress Balls. Purpose: to give to children as part of a "Feel Good Bag" which contains items for helping them cope with feelings at home.
4. 70 Journals. Purpose: group activity that encourages writing as a form of expression of feelings.
5. Refrigerator ($500). Purpose: to store food for support group events and volunteer training sessions.(THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED - THANK YOU)
6. Photocopier ($650). Purpose: to photocopy arts and crafts activity sheets for children's groups (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED - THANK YOU)
7. Signage for Lighthouse exterior ($500) (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED - THANK YOU)
8. IPOD Player (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED- THANK YOU!)
9. Docking Station/Radio ($200) (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED-THANK YOU!) Purpose: Play music for relaxation training and play significant songs during grief process.
10. Remo Kids' Gathering Drum ($200) (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED THROUGH PROCEEDS FROM THE BRING AND BUY FUNDRAISER-THANK YOU!). Purpose: Drum circles are a great way to achieve a high sense of team. They can raise energy levels, confidence, leadership and motivation. They also foster a sense of togetherness, community and team spirit.
11. Chime Bar (Orff) ($160). Purpose: addition to our collection of percussion instruments; expression of feelings through music; as one child stated: "chimes sound like angels" and can help them feel connected to the deceased.
12. 12' Parachute ($100) (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED THROUGH PROCEEDS FROM OUR BRING AND BUY FUNDRAISER-THANK YOU!). Purpose: Use in group circles with young children; teamwork, cooperation and inclusiveness are all shared benefits of both music and parachute play. The parachute creates an instant circle, allowing everyone to feel a part of the group and encouraging eye contact and interaction between all participants.
13. 70 wall calendars for 2012 (THEY HAVE BEEN DONATED--THANK YOU! ). Purpose: group activity that consists of identifying days that will be more difficult emotionally than other days and discussing strategies to cope with these difficult days.
14. Microwave ($100). Purpose: to make popcorn; warm food for events.

Small Ticket Items

1. Clock for Parent Room (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED -THANK YOU!) Purpose: For parent room facilitators to keep track of time during the session
2. Concordia Supply Plastic Drip Protectors for ½ inch candles ($70 for 50) (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED -THANK YOU!). Purpose: for use during candle lighting ceremonies to ensure safety.
3. Plain, solid colored pillowcases for arts and crafts activity. (10 for $20.00 at Dollar Store) Purpose: For a children's support group activity that involves identification and recognition of what makes you mad and of happy memories; to provide children with a strategy to relax and go to sleep
4. Books to add to our free community lending library. We gladly accept suitable donations of grief related books for children, teens and adults and also have a number of titles we wish to purchase such as grief and terminal illness. ($50.00 donations toward library) 
5. Wooden Bean Bag Toss Game ($80). (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED -THANK YOU!).Purpose: For Free Play activities in Front Room; to provide children who may not be comfortable in the Volcano Room with a way to express aggressive feelings
6. Family of Dolls ($50) (THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DONATED -THANK YOU!). Purpose: for use with the doll house for free play activities

Lighthouse Events

1. Donations to our pizza, snack and beverage fund are always appreciated by hungry volunteers, children, and teens.
2. Donations to our Charity Run in September 2013 are very welcome: for printing of Team Lighthouse T-shirts, transport of runners into Toronto, donations of food for a team dinner on the night before the run, signage during the run.  Any donations to cover our participation fee ($800 + HST) are also appreciated. Purpose: team building, community awareness, public support of our families
3. Lighthouse banner with logo. ($250.00) Purpose: to promote our organisation and increase visibility.
